Two schools in Leigh and Hockley have celebrated the opening of “inspirational” brand new and newly refurbished libraries.
West Leigh Infant School and Hockley’s Westerings Primary Academy opened their libraries on the same day, to mark World Book Day.
A new library, partly funded by parents and supporters, was unveiled at West Leigh Infants in Ronald Hill Grove.
Following the opening, a spokesman said the school was “very proud” of its new facility.
They said: “School staff, members of Friends of West Leigh, school governors and a reading ambassador from each infant class took part in the opening ceremony and ribbon cutting.
“They were also treated to a fabulous choir performance.
“Funds were raised for the new library by the ‘Friends of West Leigh School’, who do an amazing and very important job of providing additional money for projects like this.
“The money raised paid for new library bookshelves, furniture, and a treehouse, all in school colours. New books have also been provided and more soft furnishings are on the way to help provide a cosy environment for the children to read in. All children will be able to access it as part of their weekly timetable.”
Meanwhile, students and staff at Westerings Primary in Sunny Road, Hockley, were joined by Rochford councillor Julie Gooding as they unveiled their “inspirational” refurbished library.
Mrs Gooding said: “Fundraising from the Parent-Teacher Association has enabled the refurbishment through events such as organising fetes, gift shops, Mother’s Day sales, and Valentines’ discos.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this super inspirational library possible.
“Mr Stainsbury, the head teacher, is very pleased with this news.”
