PLUMES of smoke have been seen billowing over Billericay High Street as firefighters are on the scene.
Part of the High Street has been closed off as fire engines are dealing with a blaze believed to be behind a row of shops, near Alexander Mews.
Large black clouds of smoke can be seen across the High Street.
Essex Fire and Rescue Service and Essex Police have been contacted for comment.
Update 4.20pm: An Essex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman commented: "Firefighters are currently at the scene of a fire in a commercial building in High Street, Billericay.
"Four crews have extinguished the fire and crews are working to dampen the scene and monitor hotspots.
"The High Street will be closed while we deal with this incident."
